Numira’s Virtual Histology™ imaging services are ideally suited for characterizing soft tissue and skeletal anatomy in developing embryos, fetuses and a variety of soft tissue specimens. Our proprietary imaging reagent, designed for use with microCT, is differentially absorbed by the various tissues. As a result of the unique contrast enhancement, we can provide exquisite visualizations in 2D and 3D visualizations.

Comparable to a dissection microscope, Virtual Histology™ can provide greater than 6µm isometric voxel resolution enabling detailed analysis. It is an excellent methodology for the examination of fine structures in a range of soft tissue specimens. The crisp, clean images provide a degree of anatomic detail that approximates routine histology as viewed by light microscopy. The significant advantage is clearly the non-destructive nature of microCT-based Virtual HistologyTM allowing the researcher to change the angle of view from axial, sagittal, coronal and even arbitrary oblique planes based on the anatomic feature of interest offering new perspectives on developmental defects.

Virtual Histology™ enables rapid, high resolution 3 dimensional imaging of complex anatomic features and offers tools for quantitative analysis including volume, shape and distance. With expertise in digital segmentation, detailed analysis of individual organs and anatomic features is now feasible. These advanced imaging capabilities permit the detection and assessment of both gross and subtle changes in developmental growth patterns in animal models thereby facilitating increased understanding of off target genetic effects of drug and chemical products under development.  These advantages prove invaluable for transgenic phenotyping, providing deeper insights into these animal models.
